Candombe was declared Intangible Cultural heritage of humanity by a UNESCO Committee meeting in Abu Dhabi.
Candombe was thus included in the so-called "representative list" intangible cultural
properties on the proposal of Uruguay, for its value as a "cultural space" and being
a "community practice".
The candombe, illustrated in "calls" drums and tambourines, resonates on Sunday, on holidays and Carnival in the barrio Sur ofMontevideo, but also in other
two southern districts of the Uruguayan capital: Palermo and cord, where there is still, people of African origin.
The inclusion of the candombe in this list, which integrates the tango, on the proposal of Argentina and Uruguay, Wednesday means that the State concerned shall take measures that "protect it and promote it".
El candombe fue declarado Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial de la Humanidad por un comité de la UNESCO reunido en Abu Dhabi.
El candombe fue así incluido en la denominada "lista representativa" de bienes culturales inmateriales a propuesta de Uruguay, por su valor como "espacio sociocultural" y por ser una "practica comunitaria".
El candombe, ilustrado en las "llamadas" de los tambores y tamboriles, resuena los domingos, en los días festivos y para carnaval en el barrio Sur de Montevideo, pero también en otros dos barrios meridionales de la capital uruguaya: Palermo y Cordon, donde aún queda, poblacion de origen africano.
La inclusion del candombe en esta lista, la misma que integra desde el miércoles el tango, a propuesta de Argentina y Uruguay, significa que el Estado concernido adoptara medidas que permitan "protegerlo y promoverlo".
