The Mandarin Phonetic Symbols are a system for Mandarin pronunciation, which was developed in 1913 by the Chinese Pronunciation Unification Committee under the chairmanship of Mr. Wu Ching-heng(Wu Chih-hwei).
The 3rd set contains ten stamps in a se-tenant block, valued at NT$6 each, combining the symbols for ㄙ, 一, ㄨ, ㄩ, ㄚ, ㄛ, ㄜ, ㄝ, ㄞ, ㄟ”with specialities of local administrative areas.
The designs are as follows:
ㄙ(s): Sanxia (sān xiá), Golden Croissant
一(i): Yilan (yí lán), Kumquat
ㄨ(u): Wenshan (wén shān), Taipei Zoo, Maokong Gondola
ㄩ(ü): Yuchi (yú chí), Sun Moon Lake Lalu Island
ㄚ(a): Alishan (ā lǐ shān), Cherry Blossom
ㄛ(o): Zhuolan (zhuó lán), Grape
ㄜ(e): Emei (é méi), Ximaopu Suspension Bridge
ㄝ(ê): Qieding (qié dìng), Qieding Wetland, Black-faced Spoonbill
ㄞ(ai): Baisha (bái shā), Jibei Island
ㄟ(ei): Beinan (bēi nán), Sugar Apple
